A Chat with Danny Davis
Merry Christmas, Readers!
I hope this blog finds you pausing to take sometime to take care of yourself before the holiday fun begins. Thank you for joining me this morning as I share with you a new author to The Back Porch. Please welcome Danny Davis, author of the Christian Living book The Way of the Shephered.
Welcome to Back Porch Reads, Danny Davis. Since you are new to us, please share a little bit about your writing journey and your book.
When I was in elementary school many years ago, a teacher challenged us to write. She provided us with paper, taught us how to use a typewriter, and encouraged us to create and illustrate our own stories. After we wrote our stories, she took them home and bound them with contact paper-covered cardboard. We also learned about the Dewey Decimal System when our books were assigned a number and then shelved in the library. From that day on, I was inspired to become an author. I didn’t fully realize that dream until decades later. I’ve always wanted to go back and thank that teacher.
As a global missionary serving nearly 500 churches in East Africa and providing theological education for pastors, I have an incredibly demanding schedule. It would be easy for my writing to get pushed aside as I focus on my core ministry responsibilities. However, I’ve learned that making time for my creative passions is essential, not just for my own well-being but also for the work I’m called to do.
Each morning, no matter how packed my schedule, I carve out 90 minutes to get words on the page. It’s not glamorous, and it’s certainly not easy, but over time, those small increments add up. Those words become chapters and eventually full books.
While I may not currently have the luxury of a full-time writing routine, I’m committed to this disciplined approach. I’ve found that consistently showing up, even for brief periods, is the key to making progress on my writing projects amidst all my other obligations. It’s in carving out that sacred time, no matter what, that I’m able to nurture my passion to help equip the Body of Christ.
The central theme and message of my writing come directly from my heart and calling as a pastor and global missionary. My books consistently focus on helping readers grow deeper in their Christian faith and relationship with Christ.
Rather than heavy-handed moralistic sermons, I strive to approach these spiritual topics in a practical, accessible way. My goal is to meet readers where they are – whether they’re struggling with disconnection, scattering, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands – and provide a roadmap grounded in the wisdom and guidance of Scripture.
The unifying thread across my works is a pastoral desire to help fellow believers experience more peace, clarity, and wholeness in their walk with God. Whether unpacking the lessons of Psalm 23 or exploring themes of purpose, rest, and reconciliation, my writing aims to point readers toward the deep wells of strength, comfort, and direction available to us in Christ.
At the heart of my writing ministry is a passionate longing to see Christians grow deeper in their relationship with the Lord and fully embrace the abundant life He has promised now and in eternity. This dual focus on practical application and spiritual growth drives the themes and messages I continually return to.
After spending over thirty years in ministry in the USA, South Africa, and East Africa, I’ve witnessed a universal truth: people are desperately searching for peace in increasingly chaotic times. In my experience, Psalm 23 isn’t just poetry—it’s a robust roadmap to finding eternal and borderless peace.
What compelled me to write this book now was seeing how anxiety has become almost epidemic in our world. Whether teaching at a Christian institution, working with church planters in East Africa, or mentoring leaders, I encounter people who know about God’s peace but struggle to experience it. Psalm 23 offers us this beautiful picture of complete trust and rest under God’s care, and I felt called to help others unlock that power for their lives.
Through The Way of the Shepherd, I hope to show readers that lasting peace isn’t just a comforting idea—it’s attainable, even in our chaotic world. Drawing from the wisdom of Psalm 23, the book reveals practical pathways from anxiety to peace by following the Good Shepherd’s guidance. I pray earnestly that readers will discover they’re not alone in their struggles and that biblical wisdom canimpact their daily experiences and interactions with God and people.
I’m currently immersed in a new writing project that takes a deep dive into the parables of Jesus. Titled “Living the Parables,” this book aims to unpack the spiritual lessons resident in the parables Christ taught. Each chapter will focus on specific parables, exploring theircentral themes while providing practical, applicable ways for readers to integrate these teachings into their daily lives. As people engage with the parables, I hope they’ll discover fresh, life-altering insights to invigorate their faith and equip them to live out the Kingdom principles Jesus so powerfully illustrated.
Thank you, again, Mr. Davis for joining us today. It was such a blessing to have you with us and sharing your experience in ministry. I hope this tour is a blessing to you and your book.

From Chaos to Calm: A Shepherd’s Journey Through Modern Storms
It was a Tuesday morning when my world seemed to collapse. The incessant buzz of notifications, the weight of impending deadlines, and the echoes of global crises all merged into a deafening symphony of anxiety. As a pastor and global missionary, I was expected to be a pillar of peace for others. Yet, I found myself engulfed in a sea of overwhelm, struggling to breathe.
Sound familiar?
This scene plays out in countless lives daily in our hyper-connected, always-on world. We’re all searching for an anchor in the storm, a moment of respite from the relentless pace of modern life. It was in my moment of desperation that I rediscovered an ancient wellspring of peace: Psalm 23.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures…”
These words, penned by David, shepherd-turned-king, thousands of years ago began to work their way into the cracks of my fractured spirit. As I meditated on this psalm day after day, I realized it wasn’t just a poetic artifact—it was a roadmap for navigating the complexities of our 21st-century existence.
This personal transformation became the seed for “The Way of The Shepherd.” In writing this book, I set out on a quest to unpack how this timeless wisdom speaks directly to our most pressing contemporary challenges:
- Finding Peace in a World of Conflict:
Conflict seems unavoidable, from my experience of stress anxiety to the global tensions that flood our newsfeeds. But through the lens of the Good Shepherd, I discovered a peace that transcends circumstances—a calm place in the eye of the storm.
- Discovering Purpose in an Age of Distraction:
How do we discern our true calling with a thousand voices vying for our attention? The shepherd’s guidance offers a clarity I never thought possible, helping me navigate the noise and stay true to my life’s purpose.
- Achieving Wholeness in a Culture of Fragmentation:
Juggling roles as a pastor, writer, global missionary, and family member often left me feeling scattered. The shepherd’s path led me to a deep sense of wholeness, where every aspect of life finds its proper place.
- Embracing Rest in a 24/7 World:
Proper rest can seem like an unattainable luxury in a society that never sleeps. Yet, as I learned to “lie down in green pastures,” I found a rejuvenation beyond mere physical relaxation.
- Seeking Guidance in Uncertain Times:
When the future seems more unpredictable than ever, where do we turn? The shepherd’s staff became my compass, offering direction when the path ahead was unclear.
The Way of The Shepherd offers practical solutions to finding peace through personal stories, actionable advice, and deep scriptural contemplation.
As we journey through The Way of The Shepherd together, you’ll discover:
- How to cultivate a strong inner peace, regardless of external chaos
- Practical steps to align your life with God’s purpose, even when the world pulls you in a thousand directions
- Ways to foster genuine reconciliation in your relationships, healing the divisions that plague our society
- Techniques to find proper rest and recharge, even in your busiest seasons
Whether you’re feeling lost in life’s shadows or simply seeking richer pastures, this journey offers more than temporary relief—it provides a proven path to lasting peace and purpose.
Are you ready to exchange anxiety for assurance, chaos for calm, and confusion for clarity?
Let’s rediscover The Shepherd’s path to peace together. After all, who wouldn’t benefit from some peace in a world that often feels like a raging storm?
Welcome to the journey. The still waters await.
