If this was a movie, I would be on the edge of my seat.
I hang my head in shame at the knowledge that I have never taken the time to read a Dani Pettrey book. And I kick myself for missing out on this amazing storyteller’s talents until now. Do you forgive me? Good. Thank you.
The Killing Tide started with intensity and only kept pushing me to the edge, wanting more with every turn of the page. I didn’t even want to turn on the television because this was more entertaining. If it wasn’t the “who-done-it” suspense it was the growing romantic tension. Even though there were various POV’s, once I found the rhythm it was easy to get lost in the unfolding story.
I love it when I can tell that the author spent time researching her facts. It was very clear that she has extensive knowledge on The Coast Guard and various branches of the investigative teams. She painted a vivid picture of the lay of the land so that I could see in my mind where the characters were.
Now, I will say, I wish I saw more of the building romance (because that’s what I enjoy) because Gabby and Finn had an obvious attraction and I wanted to feel it too. I like to see the chemistry bubbling over between a couple. The author gave me a peek of it but not much.
Overall, I would say The Killing Tide is a fantastic read and worthy of any Back Porch with a glass of ice cold tea or lemonade.

The Killing Tide is the first book in my Coastal Guardian series. My husband was Navy, so why am I writing about the Coast Guard? Because I think their mission to keep our waters and our country safe should be highlighted more. Before I started writing The Killing Tide, I’ll admit I knew little about the Coast Guard. I had a friend in high school who joined the Guard right after graduation, but that’s about the depth of my experience with them. Then, my husband and I watched a movie called The Finest Hour.
If you haven’t seen it, I highly urge you to. It’s the true story of one of the most dangerous and daring rescue attempts in Coast Guard history. Boatswain’s Mate First Class Bernie Webber takes a small team to rescue the crew of the Pendleton T2 oil tanker, which split in half off the coast of Cape Cod during a brutal nor’easter in 1952. I won’t ruin the ending for you, but let’s just say it’s a wonderful testament to courage in adversity. After watching it, I knew I had to write a series about the Coast Guard. I began researching and came across the Coast Guard Investigative Service and my interest was highly peaked. After talking with Coast Guardsmen, both newly in the service and those long retired, I began to see the story weaving together like a movie in my mind. I hope you enjoy reading the CGIS Wilmington teams’ adventures, cases and…of course, romances.

Thanks so much for taking part in the tour. I’m so glad you enjoyed The Killing Tide 🙂
I’m right there with you on this author=( Two years ago, I made a list at the beginning of the year of well known authors that somehow I hadn’t read yet… Although I made it through several on that list, Dani is still there, and I even have copies of several of her books. Suspense is not my favorite genre although I find one every now and then that I like. I suspect I would like hers, but I guess I don’t want to be disappointed!
I enjoyed this book on audio. Her Alaskan series is still my favorite, though.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to win! This author has been on my TBR for a while but it is a very long list!
Oh, don’t wait too long to read it. This is perfect for this time of year. Enjoy!
